18A – Create a Customer Avatar

My customer wakes up early in the morning and goes to the gym. He comes gets back to his house, gets ready, and makes a shake for breakfast using almond milk. He grabs his computer bag and out the door, he goes. He gets in his red Tesla and off he goes to work. The tech space is where he works, coding, he has a good job and makes over $145K a year. For lunch, he heads to a new hipster vegan spot just a block down from his office. While eating his food, he browses Instagram and checks his facebook. Without realizing, it during lunch is where he gets exposed to the highest amount of advertising. He loves vegan and environmentally friendly products. On the side, he helps non-profits that take care of animals and non-profits that help with urban gardening with their websites. He loves supporting his community and is very politically involved.

What I have in common with this person are many of the same sentiments and feelings, but not the same actions. This guy actually lives a very compassionate lifestyle. He is the person that would be buying my product because he feels an emotional connection to it, and he has the disposable income for it.

  1. I like how specific you were about what your customer does in a day. In your reflection about what he has in common with you, I notice you say “he has the disposable income for it,” is this because your products are usually more expensive? And in this case, are you only targeting people that make significant income for this?

  2. Hi Cristian,
This is exactly who I would picture buying your product especially the hipster vibes. I would place him in his late 20s - early 30s, though that's impressive to make so much money at that point in life. I really like the part where you pointed out the advertisements because most people don't notice all of the marketing directed at them through the day and it really tied the idea back to your character.
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hello Cristian!
This was a very specific description of what your customer does during their normal day. The smaller things like the fact that he goes to hipster vegan restaurants and that he mixes his protein shake with almond milk give us some really good insight to be able to better visualize the type of person you are trying to market your products to!
    Great job!
